The Paul Klebnikov Fund Awards 2007 Prize for Excellence in Journalism to a Business Editor from Yekaterinburg, Russia
October 3, 2007
New York, NY – The Paul Klebnikov Fund will award its 2007 Prize for Excellence in Journalism to Anton Kazarin, editor-in-chief of the independent Yekaterinburg based weekly business magazine Delovoy Kvartal. As part of the prize, Kazarin will participate in a five-week fellowship at South Florida Business Journal.
Delovoy Kvartal, a network of local privately owned business weeklies founded in 1994, is the first such endeavor to be initiated outside of the capital, Moscow. Under Anton Kazarin's leadership, the magazine is published in 7 of Russia's largest regional centers, helping local businesspeople to more successfully manage private enterprises.
"It is very hard to develop an independent network of local business magazines in Russia," said Anton Kazarin when talking about his eagerness to benefit from exposure to U.S. standards of producing a publication and managing a newsroom, as well as free market frameworks. "This will be especially important as Russia is attempting to join the World Trade Organization and has to reconsider many of its traditional business ways."
Kazarin will receive the award at the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) annual dinner in Washington, D.C. on November 13, 2007.
