Press Release
Vitaly Lipik's Experience Since Receiving the Paul Klebnikov Prize for Excellence in Journalism
January 29, 2008
Dear Musa,
Certainly your program of cooperation has changed very much in my life. In the first as a result of acquaintance to various problems of an industrial society, I had many ideas in occasion of a writing of new ecological articles. Within a month of returning I wrote articles on the following on www.open.by and Argumenti i Fakti:
- The future without sexes
- Defeat of the person in struggle for domination above nature
- Danger of sodium glutamate
- Genetic engineering
- Would terminator and traitor technologies help us?
I have also started a new series of lectures on industrial ecology based on what I saw in the U.S.
Secondly, your program has made me better known in Belarus. After participating in the program and training at Science magazine I received an offer to participate in the ProOUN program in Belarus, concerning nature protection.
Thirdly, my outlook on life has strongly changed. It seems to me, my vision of life became more realistic. One idea may be a little bit fantastic, but I shall try to open an Institute of Journalism in Minsk. I have experience in journalism and in teaching at university. I could teach such disciplines as scientific journalism or ecological journalism. This way I could connect two directions of my activity in one.
Upon my return I have been forced to fulfill the absence, and worked at university for two people. It was very difficult, because simultaneously there was an editing of two my books: Recycling and Treatment of Polymeric Waste and System Analysis in Preservation of the Environment. These books should be published within two next weeks. In the first book I have added a part of knowledge that I have received during training at Science.
Concerning the journalists and editors of newspapers for your program. We have a newspaper Will of People. It is the newspaper of our opposition. Many people working there could take part in your program. They work in difficult conditions and pressing. Then there is an oppositional newspaper www.charter97.org. Authors from there also are worthy to accept participations in your program.
As soon as there will be something new, I shall necessarily write to you. I am obliged you and your program much.
Yours faithfully and with best regards,
Vitaly Lipik
