The Paul Klebnikov Fund Awards 2008 Prize for Excellence in Journalism to Mikhail Fishman

New York, NY – The Paul Klebnikov Fund is pleased to announce that Mikhail Fishman, Chief Editor of Russkiy Newsweek magazine (the Russian language edition of Newsweek), has been awarded the 2008 Prize for Excellence in Journalism. The award seeks to honor Paul Klebnikov's life and work by supporting the development of independent media in Russia through fellowship opportunities in the United States.
Mr. Fishman is a quickly rising political reporter, columnist and editor who brings with him more than 15 years of experience in reporting and over 10 years covering Russia's political spectrum. He is a fluent English speaker, and a regular commentator for the English language press. As Chief Editor of Russkiy Newsweek, he is responsible for the overall management and content of one of Russia's leading weekly news magazines.
The Excellence in Journalism prize recipient is granted a fellowship to work in U.S. newsrooms for several weeks.
Mr. Fishman will speak at the Paul Klebnikov Fund's annual fall event in New York City on November 24th, 2008. Entitled "What is Russia Thinking? The Word from the Last of the Independent Media in Russia," the event will be held on the New York University campus in collaboration with the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. Mr. Fishman will begin his fellowship activities in the United States next spring.

The Fund cooperates with Eurasia Foundation to help implement the Prize for Excellence in Journalism.
