April 10, 2011

New York, NY – The Paul Klebnikov Fund has awarded distinguished Cornell Law Professor Theodore Eisenberg its most recent Rule of Law Fellowship. One of the foremost authorities on the use of empirical analysis in legal scholarship, Dr. Eisenberg will spend his two-week fellowship at Moscow State University giving lectures, establishing collaborative research projects and consulting with legal educators and lawyers in the private sector. Professor Eisenberg will also give a public lecture entitled, "The Reality of Civil Litigation in the United States" at 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 28 in Room 753, Humanities Building 1, Moscow State University. Due to strict university security, an RSVP is required to attend the event.

Professor Eisenberg's fellowship in Russia follows the visits of two Russian Fellows from Moscow State University: Drs. Gayane Davidyan and Anastasia Matveeva, who spent their fellowships at Cornell Law School and the Harriman Institute at Columbia University, respectively. An expert in judicial ethics and a practicing lawyer, Dr. Davidyan focused on judicial ethics during her stay. Criminologist Dr. Matveeva was particularly interested in American policy measures to prevent crime.

Designed to deepen ties between the Russian and American legal communities and provide opportunities for collaborative research, the Paul Klebnikov Fund Rule of Law Fellowship involves a two-week visit for outstanding Russian and American rule of law scholars and practitioners in each other's countries. Participants take part in a program of professional meetings with colleagues, policymakers and experts in the fellow's field of interest.

The fellowship program is made possible by the generous support of the US-Russia Foundation and the assistance of numerous individual supporters.
